The ME3840B is the mid-level meter that we recommend the most for electric fields and magnetic fields. It has a separate setting for electric, and a separate setting for magnetic. One of the big reasons why we prefer this electric field to others is that it has a frequency range selector - the lower ME3830B model does not - which allows the user to choose different settings so that the user is measuring what they want to measure, and not getting false readings from other things. For example, the 50Hz to 100kHz setting is great for measuring most everything coming from electric wires, and is much more stable and is not affected by the earth's field. The 2kHz - 100kHz setting is great if you want to measure just what we often refer to as "high frequency" because it is greater than 60Hz. Some may still call this low or mid frequency. The frequency selector on the ME3840B is a very useful feature and well worth the upgrade.
You can measure things like fields emitted from home wiring, transformers, appliances and electronics, and virtually anything electrical and any wiring. Know what fields are coming out into the rooms and into the space where you and your family and friends spend time. Not only can you measure to see what's there, but you can change wiring or devices, or shield, and compare measurements after you make changes to verify that you've lowered or eliminated readings.
This is the meter we most frequently recommend for the average person interested in measuring electric and magnetic fields. It's very accurate and picks up just about everything in its advertised frequency range of 5 Hertz to 100,000 Hertz (100 kHz). It can even pick up dirty electricity to an extent, though it is not a replacement for the Stetzerizer Meter.
