"Smart" Meters

Do you have a smart meter? If you donʼt now, you will soon - if the Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) has their way. These little known, digital meter replacements for traditional analogue electric meters are quickly sparking world-wide controversy as consumers and health experts push back against corporate utility companies forcing them on trusting customers. And things are just starting to heat up in Oklahoma.
The health controversy arises from how the meters operate - pulsing your home with non-ionizing, non-thermal, man-made microwave radiation with such radiation going through walls - and you. In fact, not only will you be pulsed with your own smart meter, you will also be part of the entire ʻmesh-grid networkʼ - where utility companies essentially ferry other peopleʼs electric information through your home. Despite industry assurances that an individual smart meter only fires 6-8 times per day, numerous sources report thousands of pulses per day, including a utility company, Pacific Gas and Electric, that admitted in a court of law one smart meter can emit up to 14,000 to 190,000 communication spikes in a single day. At this rate for a solitary meter (whose pulses can reach for miles), multiply it by the number of homes just in your neighborhood - and the math quickly reaches astronomical proportions. Do we really believe this canʼt possibly affect our health?
According to Dr. Magna Havas, PhD, Associate Professor of Environmental & Resource Studies at Trent University, the frequencies employed by smart meters can cause “... sleep disturbance ... difficulty concentrating, depression, memory loss ... cardiovascular problems ...” and much, much more. In fact, Dr. Havas refers to the entire cumulative effect as Rapid Aging Syndrome (RAS), citing such frequencies so damage the body on various fronts it produces problems we normally associate with the elderly.
Even the International Association of FireFighters (IAFF) is becoming concerned with the health effects of Radio Field (RF) and MicroWave (MW) frequencies - the exact same frequencies employed by smart meters. According to the IAFF website, “Internationally acknowledged experts in the field of RF/MW radiation research have shown that RF/MW transmissions of the type [once again, the same type used in smart meters] can have critical effects on cell cultures, animals and people...” emphasis added. So just how critical are these non-thermal effects? Documented IAFF research cites “increased cell growth of brain cancer cells, increased single- and double-strand breaks in DNA, more childhood leukemia in children exposed to RF, [and] neurologic changes, including: changes in cellular morphology (including cell death)”.
How bad can we expect it to get? In the words of physician, neuroscientist and author, David Servan-Schreiber (1961 - 2011): “We donʼt want to believe our new toys to which we are so attached - and which bring in enormous profits - could also cause our demise or that of our children.”
But no matter - pending approval by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, PSO plans to forcibly install 522,000 Smart Meters - yes, forcibly - as in no opt-out is allowed. For those refusing to comply based on health concerns, or even privacy or private property concerns, the record is heavy-handed and obtrusive.
Owasso, OK (initial pilot ground for PSOʼs smart meters)
Joe Esposito - as a PSO customer for 37 years, I requested PSO remove their smart meter and replace it with a normal analogue meter, citing multiple health issues. PSO refused. After hiring a licensed electrician to replace the smart meter with an analogue meter (with a permit from the City of Tulsa, and a seal of approval from a city inspector) PSO cut off my electricity for 66 days, some of it during a sweltering 90 degree plus heatwave. With a lawyer, I was able to get temporary power restored until a court decision which stated if I wanted power I could pay $1,100.00 to have a Smart Meter installed on a pole at the edge of my property, to which I consented, due to the alternative of permanently having no electricity. I am still suffering multiple sourced microwave radiation health issues from man made pulsed, non-thermal, non-ionizing microwave radiation upon my home from which I am unable to escape - even within my own home.
Guthrie, OK
In 2013, an Oklahoma Gas and Electric (OG&E) customer was handcuffed by three Guthrie Police officers on his own property when he refused the forced installation of an OG&E smart meter. Ironically, an OG&E spokesperson, Karen Kurtz, did not consider it a “show of force” to have the man frisked and handcuffed while the smart meter was installed. (Originally reported by OK-SAFE, Inc. and Red Dirt News.)
Thus rendered impotent before the law, Oklahoma residents are seemingly supposed to ignore heralds of potentially radical health damage, however, because smart meters ʻsave moneyʼ. Really? Do they? Letʼs take a look at other areas of the country where smart meter programs have been implemented:
Illinois:
Lisa Madigan, Illinois Attorney General stated in the Chicago Tribune on June 21, 2011: “The utilities have shown no evidence of billions of dollars of benefits to consumers from these new meters, but they have shown they know how to profit. I think the only question is: How dumb do they think we are?”
California:
According to Canada Free Press, multiple California citizens have filed a class action lawsuit, “...claiming that their bills have increased many fold and consumption readings are inaccurate.”
Do we really want smart meters and all their potential health concerns forced on the residents of Oklahoma? The children and the elderly? And all in the name of so-called, and in multiple cases non-existent, ʻconsumer savingsʼ? Even if smart meters do save money, as PSO continually trumpets to its customers, the question is, at what price? How much is your health worth? Shouldnʼt it be priceless?
