(also known as the eHF35C, eHF 35C or HF 35C) is the gold standard in measuring
, cell phones, towers, WiFi, cordless phones, baby monitors, Bluetooth, microwave towers, air traffic control, and more. Easy to use, this meter is fantastic for measuring exposure and seeing the effects of remediation (such as shielding). Are you looking to reduce exposure in your home? It's hard to shield using conductive cloth or other materials unless you can measure your results.
This meter actually accurately measures the strength of the field in microwatts per square meter (µW/m²). The HF35C is Made in Germany by Gigahertz Solutions.
From the manufacturer:This is THE device for technical amateurs - especially easy to
operate. It supports all above mentioned "common advantages" and it
allows a straight forward assessment of the exposure, a determination of
suitable remedial actions, as well as a control of their effectiveness.
Has the same features and configuration as the HF32D, however additionally offers
- Audio analyses for the identification of pulsed radiation
sources (mobile radio (GSM, UMTS/G3), cordless telephones (DECT), WLAN
(Bluetooth), air-traffic control radar) by means of an acoustic signal
proportional to the modulation frequency.
- Display of peak value as well as average value (switchable).
- Sensitivity increased by a factor of 10 (from a minimum display resolution of 0.1µW/m² to a maximum of 1999 µW/m²).
- HINT: Our best-selling meter for the easy evaluation!

What settings do I use and how do I use the meter?
On the left side of the meter there is a switch that switches between RMS and Peak. RMS is like an average. We are not interested in that. We never use the RMS setting. The meter should always be set to Peak. IMPORTANT: Completely turn off your cell phone when using this meter - turn off any cell phone in a 30 foot radius - a nearby cell phone that is turned on can absolutely interfere with the readings and give you artificially high readings.
On the right side of the meter, it is best to have it set to 0-199.9 µW/m² initially. This will give you the best sound and is the most sensitive. If you get a reading of 0 on the far left of the screen, and you hear lots of sound, that means the meter is maxed out. Stepping back will lower the reading. You can also shut the meter off and then switch it to the 0-1999 setting. This will allow you to read up to about 2000 µW/m² instead of only 200. The sound isn't as good, but if you are maxed out and you need to get a reading, then use this higher setting.
Using the recommended settings above (Peak and 0-199.9 µW/m² ) you can hold the meter and "sweep" back and forth. When you pick up a signal, you will hear sound. Focus in on that sound by finding where it is the loudest/clearest. Sometimes turning or tilting the meter left and right (on its long axis) like you are tipping it from side to side will help you get the best (highest) reading from the source.
Do I need the optional attenuator?
Most people do not need the attenuator. It allows you to measure readings 100 times higher. If your HF35C is maxing out (over 2,000 microwatts per square meter) and you really would like to have an idea how high it is or perhaps right down the readings for keeping records and as evidence, then you will want the attenuator.
Recommended readings:
There is no safe level of exposure. But as a guide, we would like to keep the readings around 3 or 4 microwatts per square meter. Another doctor has said 5 or below, but the recommendations we've been using are set by the International Institute for Building Biology and Ecology:
.1 or less µW/m² | .1 to 10 µW/m² | 10 to 1000 µW/m² | 1000 or more µW/m² |
No Concern | Slight Concern | Severe Concern | Extreme Concern |
The lower the better. Ideal is 0 - nothing. If you have sources of microwaves in your home/office, including smart meters, our advice is always to replace the device with a non-wireless, non-microwave device. Shielding is an option, and can provide good temporary relief, but eliminating the source is even better.
