Description
WiFi is common and may be around for a while, until a better/safer technology is available.  In the meantime, many families and offices deal with the extreme, rapid radiation spikes/transmissions given off by typical WiFi routers and access points.  We were slightly reluctant to develop this line of products in this area, because we prefer to eliminate all radiofrequency (RF) radiation.  After all, there is substantial evidence that it is very harmful, so much so that it is on the same list as lead, DDT, and engine exhaust - the World Health Organization International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) - classified as a Group 2B Possible Carcinogen!  And we've seen too many people suffer from exposure.

Shaun installed two of these routers in my 3 story 2,400 sq. foot home. We love the fact that the WIFI is reliable and it is easy to turn the WIFI on and off and not disrupt the internet or Comcast phone. I highly recommend having Shaun use these routers along with a modem he supplies, with shielded cable and shielded power strip to create a super functional and completely low EMF home environment.

I was a bit concerned that this router wouldn't perform, either not lowering overall RF exposure or would be somehow not as good as my normal router in connectivity. However, it seems to do both really well! I have not experienced any issues with connecting to it, and streaming quality seems the be the same. My RF meter shows that average energy is way down, with very occasional peaks, whereas before there were many more peaks and average energy was much higher. Cool product overall!

Installation was very easy - just plug in and it works. Has a better WiFi connection than my old Comcast router did. Also corded gaming is faster too than with my old router.

Q: I received a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Smart WiFi router. Is this supposed to be the ElectraHealth R7 Reduced Radiation Low Emission WiFi and wired router? It doesn't mention anything on the box about low emission WiFi just 100% faster for Mobile devices and for gaming and streaming which we do not do. Sorry to be confused but I ordered one product from a company and received another from a different company. It also has no instructions.

A: Thank you for your questions. We are working on labeling/instructions currently. The router you received is, indeed, the ElectraHealth R7 router, which is based on the Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router. We have completely flashed the router and custom configured it for low emissions after a great deal of testing. I'm sorry for the lack of instructions and labeling, and this should be resolved soon. The router is simply plug-and-play, so you should be able to use it right out of the box without having to configure or install anything.

If you need to access the router's configuration pages, go to http://192.168.1.1 in your browser and use the username "Admin" and password "password"

DD-WRT is the firmware we use. There is a wealth of information on this open-source software on the Internet. It features many, many advanced functions allowing access control, time-of-day, VPN, and much more.

Q: I genuinely appreciate the goal of this unit, and I'm impressed with the radiation reduction measurements. Congrats on developing this and making it available. I feel it important to ask the tough question: how well does it actually perform? Specifically, is coverage comparable to an average wifi access point? And how stable/reliable is it? I suspect most persons who are interested in low-emission wifi would be willing to accept a slight performance dip as a trade-off for the reduced emissions, but it may be difficult to justify using it if it's consistently less reliable, particularly for higher bandwidth use (e.g. streaming). Have you collected any data on its coverage and reliability? Thanks.

A: We don't yet have any data on coverage/reliability. However, we have not had any reports of reliability issues, or complaints about coverage. On the contrary, we have received positive feedback about coverage - coverage being better than previously-used customer routers. One nice features is that the signal strength and other settings regulating the wireless radios can be completely customized. Need more coverage? You can bump it up in very small increments until you find exactly the power you need. Since all of the advanced settings are unlocked, the user can tweak this router until it performs exactly as desired for coverage/speed.

Q: On any router- this is a general question- if you only have wired connections from the router to your computer, is the router putting out EMF? If so, does it put out MORE radiations of EMF if someone is using the WiFi part of the router? And yours wouldn't? Tx!

A: Yes, all WiFi routers act as access points and dump out HUGE amounts of microwave radiation (radiofrequency radiation). You can hear this on an RF meter like the HF35C or the Acoustimeter. WiFi Routers are horrible, and over the years we have received countless complains about WiFi causing health problems for people - often serious ones.

The best thing to do is shut off the WiFi when you are not using it on the ElectraHealth R7 router. However, even if it is left on, the small amount of radiation pulses that come from the ElectraHealth R7 router make up such a tiny exposure amount compared to a regular consumer or ISP router. So wiring is good, and disabling the WiFi adapter completely on the computer is best. This can reduce your exposure greatly as well.

Q: What are the radiation levels are when you are actually using the the R7 WiFi Router compared to when it is on standby (when you are not actively browsing the Internet)? For example, if you are streaming a YouTube video to another room, are the radiation levels still as low as they are depicted? How does the radiation compare to other WiFi routers when you are actually using the router?

A: Because the router's transmit power has been turned down so much, the exposure will be reduced compared to a dtandard router no matter what you're doing. Idle and in use. The more users/devices and traffic on WiFi the more radistiin will be transmitted. It js proportional to use. But this R7 router will always be significantly less radiation than a regular WiFi router.

Q: Is the 99% reduction in the number of pulses/sec just when the router is in standby (on, but not actively being used), or is there a 99% reduction in pulses/sec when the wifi is being used as well? (Does it matter how much or how many people are using it?) Thanks!

A: The 99.8% reduction test result was in idle mode. Most people with WiFi will be in idle mode most of the time, because most people are not tranferring much data. It would be complicated to setup identical tests to measure traffic. However we already know the emissions and exposure will be enormously reduced since we have turned the transmit power down so far. We just have not yet tested to arrive at a percentage reduction when in use. A meaningful measurement would be to test "average" use, but once again this would be very time consuming and costly and we are already confident that the emissions are extremely reduced.

Q: Shaun: Thank you for the detailed responses to the questions asked. You mentioned this unit has been completely flashed and loaded with the DD-WRT open-source firmware and then subsequently configured for low-emissions. (Based on my experience, DD-WRT sounds like a very smart choice, by the way.) Needless to say, most router manufacturer's provide periodic downloadable firmware upgrades for the purposes of maintaining good security, correcting bugs, and adding features. Is it safe to assume that I could download and apply DD-WRT firmware updates to this unit whenever they become available, without erasing the low-emission configuration? Or does the special low-emission configuration require that firmware never be updated?

A: When a suitable firmware updste is available, we will review and test the update and then send an email notification to those who have purchased the router. It's important to test, because zero assumptions can be made with routers and emission levels - we have tested numerous routers that do not respond to lower emission settings. Test with an RF meter if you want to do any modifications yourself. Also, it is recommended to reset configuration prior to and after flashing firmware. When the time comes we will provide a download link and detailed instructions.
